Concussions are life changing – Healing them can be life changing

Concussions are life changing. – Healing them can be life changing.

In the US, there are about 1.6 – 3.8 million diagnosed sports and recreation related concussions annually.  A significant portion of these affect children and adolescents. The National Institute of Health states that the most commonly reported symptoms are headaches, dizziness, nausea, sensitivity to light and noise, confusion and fatigue.  Children and adults may have to miss school or work and get behind which can also result in anxiety, mood changes, depression and sleep disturbances.

Healing concussions promptly is vital, and at Bhakti Brain Health Clinic, we can help you with personalized assessments and therapies in our Edina, Minnesota clinic.

                                   Our Evidence-Based Treatments For Healing

QEEG  and ERP Brain Mapping – This high level non-invasive neuroimaging provides over 200 pages of maps, data and analysis about your brain. You sit in a comfortable chair while a cap of sensors is placed on your head to connect with our software.  This takes about an hour and we will record your brain wave activity in a relaxed state with eyes closed, and active state with eyes open.  Your brain data is fed into 3 different AI software programs to look for patterns of dysregulation.  During findings reports afterward, clients are relieved and amazed to see what it actually looks like in their brains, and that they finally have answers they were hoping for.

Neurofeedback –  This therapy of “brain training” is cutting edge technology to regulate brain wave activity to act more like a normal brain.  It is medication free,  non invasive, evidence based, FDA approved and creates permanent new patterns.  People find relief from symptoms of traumatic brain injuries, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, learning challenges, emotional regulation, focus, calm and better sleep.

  • In 2012 the American Academy of Pediatrics listed Neurofeedback as a Level 1 Best Support for ADHD, the same rating that was given to stimulants.

  • The National Institute of Health states that not all neurofeedback is the same.  It’s important to know what you need.

  •  We are proud to use LORETA equipment which utilizes a full 19 sensor cap to create a 3D map of brainwave activity allowing for more precise targeting to train deeper in the brain regions. Older traditional methods primarily use individual scalp electrodes to train surface-level brain activity.

Neurostimulation – We provide several types of Cranial Electrical Stimulation which is a non-invasive therapy using low level electrical currents to treat concussion symptoms like pain, sleep problems and cognitive issues.

Photobiomodulation – Red and Near Infrared light therapies can provide immediate relief from headaches, nausea and dizziness, reduces inflammation, improves mitochondrial function while stimulating new cell growth, increases blood flow to the brain,  and accelerates recovery.  We have many types of red light devices such as panels, helmets, mouthguards and nasal/ear lasers.

Physical and Functional Medicine (Chiropractic care and Physical Therapy) – We have great referrals for you. When physical medicine is combined with neuro (brain) therapy, your whole body can recover efficiently.

Our Functional Forum last week featured our guest speaker, Dr. Hlee Xiong who is a Chiropractor at Edina Healthsource.  She spoke about her work with athletes and her treatments for recovery and rehabilitation. She is a knowledgeable and skilled provider if you need one.  Some key take aways were:

  1. Rest- sleep, reduce physical and mental activity and screen time.

  2. Rehab- a professional can help with specific movements, activities and incorporate tools such as Inferential current therapy.

  3. Nutrition – high protein, omega 3 anti-inflammatory foods, increase fruits/vegetables, decrease sugar/alcohol and hydrate.

  4. Combine Neurotherapy for maximum healing with body and brain.
